A Favorite Love Scene From French Illusions

Adam, the main love interest in my memoir, is one of my favorite characters in the book. He had it all – good looks, intelligence, humor and a sort of je ne sais quoi that was irresistible.  As you can imagine, it wasn’t easy to write romantically about myself. I wrote and then rewrote these scenes, wiping the sweat off of my brow, until I could imagine them in print. Here is a sample of one of my favorites:

“Adam was so close behind me now I could feel his body
pressing against mine, and shivers migrated down my spine.
Frozen, I stared at the photo longer than necessary until he
took it from my hands. With a firm grip, Adam turned me
around, tilted my head back, and pressed his lips against mine.
I melted in his arms, moaning into his mouth.

“Mm . . . you smell nice.” He breathed against my neck as
he maneuvered me onto his bed.

“So do you,” I whispered, the musky scent of his hair
enthralling.

We kissed long and solidly for some time until he drew
away, leaving me a bit dazed, my body trembling with tension.
With one swift movement, he pulled me to my feet. “We
had better leave my room before I break my promise to you,”
he murmured, his eyes searching my face while his finger outlined
my jaw.

I drew in an unsteady gulp of air. “It’s nice to know you’re a
man of your word.”

Do you have a favorite love scene in French Illusions? I’d love to hear from you.
