I thoroughly enjoyed this memoir about the true life adventures of a young American living and working in an entirely unfamiliar world of French high society. There is adventure, romance, and conflict between complex and relatable characters while Linda struggles to balance what is required of her with her own desire for experiencing the world outside of the mansion. As an extroverted and adventurous twenty something Linda has big dreams of romance and a social life but her strict employer would rather have a twenty-four hour servant at her beck and call. This book will be sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and you will feel like you are living Linda’s adventure out yourself. Well done and a great fun read!

Thanks for your interest in French Illusions. I hope you enjoy the story, and if you do, I would greatly appreciate a positive review at Amazon and Goodreads.

  4. I just finished your book and so enjoyed it. You tell a story very well. I had trouble putting it down. I especially loved how you captured so much of the life around food in France. Cafe scenes, meal descriptions, ingredients. Fait bien!
I plan to take it to my house in SW France which I run as a gite. I will add it to my library there for my guests to enjoy.
    Very warmly,
    Ann

      Hello Ann,

Thank you so much for your kind words. Your positive review sent me over the moon:) I’m so glad you enjoyed my descriptions, it was fun to research and learn more about the Loire Valley as I filled in different parts of my memoir. Additionally, I hired an editor who had grown up in this region of France. She helped me with the French and she also corrected some of my cultural errors in the book. I wonder, are you French? Where is your gite? Anyway, I wish you all the best during the holidays.

      -Linda

P.S. I’ve started writing “French Encore,” which will answer many of your questions about the rest of my stay in France. Look for it in a year or so.
